Therapy avenues at GSSE

Physiotherapy Unit

This is a full-fledged unit for student with Cerebral Palsy (C.P).Children with Cerebral Palsy have a physical management programme which includes active muscle strengthening, toning, and positioning to mobility training as per student's active physiotherapy goals. The Physiotherapy Unit is equipped with parallel bar, standing box, wall ladder, staircase stand, slide board etc.

Occupational Therapy(OT) Unit

Occupational Therapy is a vital requirement for all our students.
The majority of our students require occupational therapy as part of their skill training in the form of gross and finer occupational tasks. Occupational Therapy helps to improve the student's cognitive, physical and motor skill, and enhances their self-esteem with sense of accomplishment. Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder have sensory issues which needs specific sensory modulation. Hence, they have individualized OT programmes to work upon their sensory issues. Occupational Unit (OT) at GSSE is quite well-equipped with vestibular swing, balance beam, hand gym kit board, power web etc.

Speech Therapy Unit

Speech Therapy is an inclusive part of Special Education, where all aspects of communication i.e., receptive, expressive are taken into consideration. This includes understanding, expressing, vocabulary use of sign language, use of picture symbols, to object exchange to communicate. Speech Therapist monitor specific speech programme after the assessment, brief the parents about language program to carry out specific orometer exercises (if in need).

Hydrotherapy Unit

Hydrotherapy unit has added more therapeutic value to the existing therapy wings at GSSE. The indoor hydrotherapy pool is very popular spot of our students. Students have their weekly hydrotherapy session as per their therapeutic demand. Students with Cerebral Palsy to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) get the most benefits as water's natural buoyancy allows the maximum freedom of movement of limbs under water.

Aerobics, Physical Fitness & Yoga

Aerobic and Physical Fitness training(drill) gives a lot of systematic and rhythmic movement of limbs. The sessions are conducted by a physical trainer bi-weekly. The aerobic session is followed by Yoga therapy  to enhance calmness and increase concentration (since hyperactivity is a major concern of many of our students).

Multi-Sensory Therapy Unit I and II

Multi - Sensory Therapy Unit (MSTU) - I & II. We have two multisensory therapy units. Multi-Sensory Therapy Room - I is well equipped with sensory equipment (projector light, musical toys, texture wall/mat, smell and taste box etc.) for exploring of five major senses (visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory and gustatory). Students with severe developmental delay are given the sensory exposures. The Therapy Room is a stimulant for our high support group students.

Multi - Sensory Therapy Unit (MSTU) -II has ladder, climbing steps, spin swing etc. for the hidden senses …. Vestibular and proprioceptive activities. School has a small corner of sensory garden with selected herbs with distinct scents. This is a a comfort zone for students seeking specific sensory needs.

Music Therapy

Music room is an exciting zone for our students .It is equipped with various musical instruments from Tabla, Synthesizer to Musical Mat to Caarvan .Students choose their favourite instruments to play or some participate listening calmly.

ADL Unit (Activities of Daily Living)

ADLs are therapeutic occupational task, reduces hyperactivities and helps to organise daily schedule. This promotes healthy instruction as child becomes a part of household chores and promotes confidence, enhances child's self-esteem. ADL unit is structured for specific task i.e. washing, cleaning, table laying, folding and ironing. It is engaging and therapeutic for students where student's physical home environment is taken into consideration. This unit helps in behaviour modification program of high support group students.
